Monitoring hemolysis with LDH provides a more accurate assessment of PNH

  • Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is the best marker for hemolysis — the underlying cause of PNH signs and symptoms — unlike hemoglobin, which helps diagnose anemia (one potential sign of PNH)
  • It is important to establish a baseline LDH level and continue monitoring over time. Static or “snapshot” measurements of LDH may not reflect the chronic and progressive course of the disease
