PNH in Coombs-Negative Hemolytic Anemia and Hemoglobinuria
Who to Test for PNH: Coombs-Negative Hemolytic Anemia and Hemoglobinuria1,2
Coombs-Negative Hemolytic Anemia
Patients with hemolytic anemia who are Coombs-negative or have concomitant iron deficiency are more likely to present with a PNH clone.2
PNH Consensus Guidelines recommend testing all patients with Coombs-negative hemolytic anemia for PNH.2
Hemoglobinuria
According to the PNH Consensus Guidelines from the Clinical Cytometry Society, "any patient with unexplained hemoglobinuria should be tested for PNH."2
- 47% of patients with hemoglobinuria tested positive for PNH clone3
- However, only 26% of patients reported hemoglobinuria at diagnosis4
Perform PNH flow cytometry on all patients with Coombs-negative hemolytic anemia and/or hemoglobinuria.
